EIS503 Public and Private Life in Byzantium

Upon completion of the course students will be able to attend the political, ecclesiastical, administrative, military and economic organization of the Byzantine Empire.

The course presents the everyday life of the Byzantine man, both in the public and private areas, including areas such as the imperial court, the church and the clergy, the administrative organization of the Byzantine Empire, the land army and the navy, the trade and artisans, professions, education, life in the cities and the countryside.
