EIS703 Palaeography-Papyrology

The curriculum of this course examines the evolution of the handwritten book (cylinder, code), from antiquity to Byzantium, the types of writing, the writing materials and the graphic materials (papyrus, parchment, paper), with reference to critical edition, the transcription and dating of papyrus texts and Byzantine parchment codes.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to follow the evolution of the basic types of writing in papyrus and Byzantine parchment codes, and they could transcribe, date and restore critically papyrus texts and Byzantine parchment codes.
