The course will discuss aspects of the cultural and social history of Hellenism from the years of the Byzantine Empire and the Western domination to the Greek Revolution. At the heart of the study one can find the characteristics and geographical dispersion of Greek communities, educational issues, economic and cultural influences, modern Greek enlightenment and the emergence of Greek national ideology.
